ID-IRI Primary Brain Abscesses study, accepted for publication

Dear ID-IRI Members

We are pleased to announce that the ID-IRI study on Primary Brain Abscesses has been accepted for publication in the International Journal of Infectious Diseases. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all participants involved. Together, we have contributed to one of the largest case series ever documented in the literature.

The mortality risk associated with primary brain abscesses continues to be a concern even after the infection has resolved. Patients with identified causative bacteria tend to exhibit higher survival rates, while early mortality is notably linked to intravenous drug use. Conversely, late-stage mortality is more frequently associated with abscesses involving the temporal lobe. Additionally, the mean survival time varies significantly, being shorter for intravenous drug users and longer for those with malignancies.
